A lot of people have told me to go find her books and read them. As I understand it she is a well regarded fantasy/science fiction author.

Now, why should I read her work? Is she more geared to comedy, saga, or romantic themes? I refuse to read novels with too much romance in them, because they just irritate me.

Apparently she's written several concurrent series, one about dragons and another about a spaceship or something. Any help?

The dragon Riders of Pern... I do not really like it, but my dad has read it since it first appeared (or soon after, at least).

Have you heard of the 'Legends' and 'Legends II' anthologies? They were edited by Robert Silverberg and both have a short tale of Pern printed within... If anything they may introduce you to other fantasy writers.

Ah, yes... I have not read any of the actual novels of the Pern series, only those short stories... Maybe I should read one of the books at some stage, too.

Edit: Hah I did not say what type of fiction the author uses... From what I can gather it is written in more of a typical fantasy trilogy style than anything else (if that measn anything to you). The Pern novels are event driven, too, or so state the short blurbs that I have read.

I've read a large majority of her books and have the ebook versions of all of them (i think). The series i like the best is the Talents series. The others are good and worth a read... but if you want to be eased into her way of writing try the Talents series. Pern is... a bit full on.
