All information will remain anonymous; you answers will not specifically be used as examples but merely to identify trends with HSC students suffering sleep deprivation

Interview Questions

1. What is your gender? Male/Female

2. When experiencing sleep deprivation, how long do you believe you suffered the condition for? Can you describe some of your feelings during these times, such as feeling down etc

3. For you personally, was the condition voluntary or involuntary?

4. If voluntary, what are the reasons you choose to have less than 7-8 hours sleep a night?

5. If involuntary, what are the factors influencing you to not achieving 7-8 hours sleep a night? E.g long distance travel, sleep insomnia etc

6. If the condition is caused by voluntary factors, have you ever used medications or energy/caffeine type products in order to overcome the implications of sleep deprivation in the short term (e.g lack of concentration, drowsiness)?

7. If yes, do you believe these medications or products are harming your health and in what way?

8. Have you taken any steps to overcoming the condition, such as finishing homework earlier, reducing work shifts or socialisation in order to get to bed earlier?

9. If yes, what steps have been taken to improve your sleeping patterns?

10. If no, why have you continued to maintain a sleep deprived lifestyle?

11. Have you noticed a change in your physical health since suffering the condition, if so what and why is this case? E.g too tired to exercise or excess eating in order to improve energy

12. Do you believe the condition has impacted upon your social life? If yes how?

Thank you for completing my survey, your assistance is greatly appreciated
