we did it in class though. we had to use either plasticine, straws, pipe cleaners [is that what they're called? i've forgotten now. those furry wires], tiny balloons [those ones you use for water bombs] and i think that was it.

we used plasticine and straws
except crazybrad's sounds easier. much less messy/smelly

What you use is Molymod :p They're cute xD althought I have trouble finding them because people don't seem to sell them anymore *frown* you school must have some :p they're made in England I think ;) I remember having a practical assessment in which we had to make a few molecules with them, including ethene (ethylene), water, a halocarbon (I think it was chloroethene).. also we used them to demonstrate polymerisation glucose as well :p that one was a lot of fun :p

we had to do it for the prelims :)

we made hydrocarbons using toothpicks and playdough.

while i was trying to make all my atoms perfect and round, and break my toothpicks so they are exactly the same length... my teacher came and said "OMG why are you doing that? you have only 10 minutes left, you don't have time to get it perfect!! hurry up! you're running out of time."

he got me panicking so i did the rest as fast as i can in a blurry mess of pink and blue. then when he came to check, he said "oh... you made a mistake there. did i make you rush too much? oh i did didn't i... sorry about that, i'll give you the extra mark."

LOL

Ahh molecular modelling .. brings back memories. 1st year chem allows the use of molecular modelling equipment, which everyone took as an excuse to smuggle sugar snacks into the exam!
