The National Computer Science School (NCSS) is a ten day residential camp hosted at the University of Sydney in January each year. The camp is a fantastic opportunity to meet other students from across Australia who are interested in IT and computing -- it's the kind of thing I wish I had known about when I was in high school.
There is more information on their website: http://www.ncss.edu.au/summer_school/, but to summarise it briefly, students attend lectures, learn to program in Python, work on a major project with a team of other students, and also participate in a range of other fun activities. There are plenty of opportunities to talk to current university students, current industry professionals, visit various IT workplaces in Sydney (including Google & Atlassian), and to receive valuable career advice.
Students currently in year 11 are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications close 15th November.
