Well, our last week of term was bloody hectic and stressful!
Here's what I had due in the last week (27/06/05 - 1/06/05):
Mon
nothing! - woohoo!
Tue
Physics assessment due and in-class assessment
Wed
Physics in-class assessment
Thur
4U Maths in-class assessment and English task due
Fri
Chemistry prac assessment due
And then lots of fun for the holidays
(sarcasm):
19/07/05 3U Maths assessment due
21/07/05 English assessment due
20/08/05 Physics assessment due
before trials Software major project due
Now the thing that has pissed me off most about having all these assessment tasks due in the last week of term is that during the rest of the term we had barely any assessments at all.... we may have had 1 or 2 total!!
Now this exact same thing has happened every term since year 11, and I think it brings down the average marks for everyone in the year, as you're not just focusing on one task, you're focusing on half a dozen or more. I have written a brief note to the principal at the same time last year, letting him know about the problem and suggesting a simple central assessment calendar for teachers to see and write on so that they can evenly spread tasks as much as possible (obviously this didn't happen). So I've written another brief note to the principal again this time and I find that he has let all the teachers know that I have complained about having all these assess due in the last week, so now they all have a grudge on me - that's got to be great! (again, sarcasm)
.... So I thought I'd do a bit of a survey. Can you please post:
1) School name + whether public or private (just want to see if there's a difference in the private schools)
2) Do you find that your school crams a heap of assessments into the last week?
3) Number of assessments and non-assessable tasks due in the last week of Term3
4) Approx. number of assessments due in the rest of the Term3
5) If bothered, could you list your assessment tasks for the last week (e.g. as I have done above)
6) Any other comments you have.
