wassup people I'll soon be getting a laptop but I really don't know what I should get?
I don't like Apple Mac's cause they are overpriced and overated
What I think is most important (in order):
1. Entertainment (movies & gaming&sound)
2. medium-large screen with good graphics
3. Light and looks nice
4.School
PLEASE HEEEEEEEEEELP :smile::tree::drink::hammer:

What's your definition of light. Because light for me is anything <4kg. But it could be something completely different for someone else.

And do you need an optical drive?

Sounds like you need...a Mac! they are definitely NOT overrated, but they are very over priced, only because nothing is even close to competition. I used to be a Mac hater before, but once you start using them it's just 100x better than windows. Movies and sound, mac's great, medium large screen you're fine, light and looks nice the mac kills everything here, and the mac's are very portable as well so it'd be fine for school. So long as your games are the occasional dota and WoW and nothing crazy, you shouldn't need crazy graphics anyway.

Apple have now fixed this by redesigning the way their fans work, as is soon in the new Macbook Pro.

In answer to OP's question, I'd have to agree with ahdil33, though Macs aren't the best for games, they should certainly be able to handle any online games that you might be playing, like WOW, etc.

If you're definitely set on avoiding a mac though, you could always look at Alienware laptops. They're basically DESIGNED for optimal gaming, and have most of the other stuff you're after as well. They aren't too cheap, though.

Lastly, if you're on a tight budget but still want to look for a good laptop that runs on Windows, take a look at ASUS laptops..They're generally pretty good for the sort of stuff you sound like you're after.

Oh, and one other thing..You can generally save yourself a lot of money by shopping around online for laptops versus physically buying them from stores that raise the price of the product to make profit. Check that out, too, and perhaps you'll be able to get more for your money's worth.

You can play games on a Mac ?

Anyway, the new ultra books don't look bad, but they have pretty small hard drives not to sure what the graphics are like (integrated or dedicated graphics card).

Depends on what price you want to spend, shopping online is good but I usually go to Harvey Norman or JB hifi and haggle for a good deal (their usually willing to throw in a mouse, bag and anti virus depending on the laptop)

BTW I also recommend a quad core processor, so much faster and better for multitasking than a dual.

Note: You can bootcamp/dual-boot Windows on Mac. So yes, you can play games and it doesn't do too bad. But then again, they aren't often designed for games, more work (I find).

Plus, you say you're a Laptop noob but don't like MacBooks? Have you ever properly used one?

Tip: Anything that is close to 4kg will be noticable on your back.

Just, stay away from Compaq. I'm not a fan of Asus either, unless they've stepped up their game... I won't touch the things after repairing so many seemingly non-sensical faults.

What type of gaming are we talking about here?

Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition. It's less than 3kg, and has the options of blu-ray and 1920x1080 screen. Has skullcandy speakers, 1tb hard drive with a 32gb mSata cache, 3rd gen i7 processor and a 2gb AMD7730m gfx card for all your gaming. I play BF3 on medium settings and ultra textures and get around 45-60 fps
