Thanks

I shouldnt think so,

I havent been informed of that.

My understanding is that you can use whatever you like really, as long as it deals with HR in a contempary setting.

I see no reason why Aslyum seekers couldnt be used

correct me if im wrong...

Asylum seekers can be used as both international or domestic...I would focus it on domestic though, at least you don't have to search for the information. :)

I did Falun Gong as international and Aboriginals as domestic...:p

Yes, you can if talking about ASYLUM SEEKERS.

You can't use MANDATORY DETENTION as was practised in WA and NT criminal law which often detained children. This policy has been overturned by the new Labor governments in those states since 2001.

its true, mandatory sentencing has been ABOLISHED

however, there are still guidelines in law which details the amount of time/type of punishment for a specific case that judges can refer to (im not sure if this is binding) so even though it doesnt formally exist, it still operates somewhat.

Like NSW SC CCA Guideline judgements? I think these are made in all states because as Asqy puts it - "'there are some nutjobs on the NSWSC bench...we dont trust them...thats why we are handing down a guideline judgment'"

There are also statutory guidelines that judges must follow in terms of sentencing.

There are only two children remaining in the detention centres. All the rest left due to the UN Human Rights Commission inquiry, not to mention all the backlash... the only reason those two apparently remain is as they're too young to be without their parents or something.

As far as I know, asylum seekers and refugees are the same thing.

Yeah, I don't see why you couldn't use the detention centre issue, even though it may have been somewhat resolved it was still once a major issue. Hell, you could probably even talk about Hitler and how effective international law has been in rectifying the situation so we don't have another fruitcake.
I don't think I'll bother using anything current, something way back that has had measures implemented should help in answering any question they throw at me.
