say if you were to do poorly in your 2 units of English advanced, and get a horrible ranking for it, but achieve good rankings in your other subjects ( subject equal to 10 units) is it still possible to get an ATAR in the 80's-90 ? can ranks outweigh other ranks if you kill your externals? cause its still 50% of your assessment left..

Its a difficult question to answer. It depends on a variety of different factors really. Try an ATAR caluclator to see how much one bad mark can effect you.

i get 55/64 for english but

top 10-15 / 60 for my remaining 8 units....

can i still improve my english and get a good moderated and HSC mark ? which would lead to a good atar even though my ranking was horrible?

Its possible, but it depends how good your cohort is and what you define as being a good ATAR/moderated mark.

and so rankings really mean nothing they just see the disparity between each student...

Rankings do mean something. If your cohort does poorly on the externals but you really well, then your moderated mark will be low.

alrighty that clears alot up.. i guess ill have to kill externals .. and again if i got moderated marks 85 or over will my HSC mark be good and my atar?

Well, if your moderated mark is 85 and external mark is 92 for example, then you will get 89 as a final mark.
