how did augustus maintain power?
i already know that he made all the romans happy with the high paying army and the constant activities for the plebs, and also that he created a network of roads which gave him popularity.
wat else did augustus do to maintain his title as emperor?

I don't do this topic, but I remember that the titles for all the magistracies (ie senators, consuls, praetors, etc) remained the same even though all their real power was gone. This deceived and placated people (ie the power and manipulation of language etc etc).

Also note the default popularity he earned for bringing about the Pax Romana and ending almost a century of Civil War. His continual emphasis on this deed would ceratinly have maintained his support. This might entail the use of authors and poets (for example, Virgil and the propaganda of the Aeneid) as well.
