Do you think nobody will smoke in the year 2025?

Do you think tobacco will be banned by then? Do you think drinking could be next?

I think it would be impossible to ban smoking and eliminate it completley, even if u banned it, it goes underworld and becomes like other drugs.

There's no way Australia will be completely tobacco free in 20 years, but where people can smoke will be restricted a lot more than now. Which sucks.
I really like this story by Richard Glover. Smoking should never be outlawed.

I saw an 11 year old kid smoking when i was at McDonalds the other day. If that is any indication of what the future generations will be like, they have no chance of abolishing it.

Most generations of males smoked less then their fathers generation did. So if you have the correct social and cultural programs you could probally make Australia tabacco free, or close enough to it. Which hopefully it will be, and with that they will promote more liefstyle changes that will improve health.

a girl i spoke to did a huge research about it, uni styles.

she says the evidence and the shit is there if you want to look it up; pubs and shit will be smoke free very very soon. not the one corner/room shit anymore.

i dont know... if they smoked less theyre doing it at a younger age, or that is what it seems to me.

I doubt it would become banned completly. Possibly only banning on smoking it except on private residential propertines.

Drinking won't go, smoking had passive smoking to knock it down.

Whilst I think that drinking, if banned, would go underground (like it did in the Prohibition), I doubt smoking would. Smoking seems to be a far more constant drug; you can't really get all hopped up on smoking for one night like you can with narcotics and alcohol. Smoking is much less of a 'good time'.

I think it should be banned everywhere where people are forced to directly encounter passive smoke; restaraunts, pubs, clubs, public venues, outside westfield, on the street, etc. Maybe venues could pay a huge amount to get a 'Smoker License' or something.

ok governments are taxing the shit out of packets of cigs the price usually stuns some ppl but generally the ppl don't care because its a drug an ppl get addicted they cant stop "apparently" so they continue to smoke.. to really get rid of smoking it must be eliminated from its core and that means a real effort by governments to weed out smoking and its associated ideas (i'm cool i can smoke) little do they know that they are fucking up their bodies seriously to the max

I think it should be banned everywhere where people are forced to directly encounter passive smoke; restaraunts, pubs, clubs, public venues, outside westfield, on the street, etc.

To be honest, I think that people should be allowed to smoke in pubs and clubs, a warning on the door of said pub or club, that it isn't a smoke free zone should be sufficient to warn off people who are worried about passive smoke. I think alot of the more recent prohibitions such as banning smoking in open air areas like public beaches are garbage. Smoking is LEGAL, and personally I think that smokers should be able to enjoy their habit wherever other people aren't going to be forced to passively inhale. To "lobby for more smoke-free public places", particularly open air places is just slamming on responsible adults enjoying themselves in a way that causes no harm to anyone but themselves. Smoking isn't like alcohol - it doesn't have any short term social consequences.

The tax on ciggies is also rubbish, it has nothing to do with taxing for the public good, but taxing a price inelastic good and raking in a healthy profit - like petrol.

Of course, underage smoking is another issue entirely .
