Very cool new course on offer from Australia's national film school: AFTRS. It's the first time AFTRS has offered a course for young people - up till now you had to have heaps of industry experience before you could apply to study there. The course is a one year Foundation Diploma in Filmmaking.

A one year course is a good alternative to a three year Uni degree and after just one year you will be able to go and get job in the film industry. AFTRS is really highly regarded in the film industry so an AFTRS qualification is a good idea if you are serious about a film career.

The AFTRS Foundation Diploma is really practical and hands on with a bit of theory as well and you get to meet and work with professionals who really know their stuff.

AFTRS is equal to NIDA for film studies - it's the best place in the country to learn about filmmaking and the School is located in The Entertainment Quarter next to Fox Studios. The School itself is brand new (they relocated in May this year from their old location out near Macquarie Uni) and it has the latest gear.

Applications close for the new AFTRS Foundation Diploma on November 7 so check out their microsite for more details - you have to complete a task and provide a portfolio of your work so if you are serious don't leave it to the last minute to do you application - if you have done visual arts, drama or three unit English they are keen for you to apply.
