Hey i recently started year 12 and am interested in doing a finance or economics or commerce degree or something along those lines, all majoring in accounting.

I am currerntly trialling 4u maths.

I heard that some universities offer automatic entry into some of these courses to those who do 4 u maths. Is this true or strictly a rumour?

If it is true, which universities offer this?

any help would be greatly appreciated

p.s for some reason i have a gut feeling that this is not true!

not true
admission into univeristy is determined by UAI, not what subject you were enrolled in.

u may have mistaken it for certain units in your degree that require a prerequisite (ie. completition of previous unit), or completion of HSC 4u.
eg. hyopothetically, say some statistics unit requires you to have completed math123. But since you've done 4u, they won't make you do math123.

Contrary to what the above people have posted, USyd have been known to allow students to enter their Advanced Science program based (more or less) on Mathematics Ext2 results (and/or Physics/Chemistry) even if they do not achieve the UAI cut-off released by UAC.

thats only if say you needed a uai of 95 and you got 94. You'd have to negotiate with the uni saying that something like english pulled down your mark and they take into into consideration. it's not a formal procedure.

* it's not for commerce related subjects
* it's not automatic entry
* it's not if u just do 4u, u have to do 4u, get good mark and say your other non relevant subjects pulled your uai back

Uhh, it was more like they got low 90s and they needed 96 point something. You don't have to negotiate or write them a letter or anything. That's how half my friends who do Adv Sci at USyd got in (with notably lower UAIs).

1. It's not Commerce, but it addresses the "automatic entry into uni if you do 4u maths (reasonably well)"
2. It is automatic entry considering 1.
