I don't get why USyd has BCST *and* BIT. They're practically the same, apart from the extra year in BIT! Ok, so you learn more in BIT. But why would one choose BCST over BIT? (Is there another reason apart from UAI?)

Have you looked at the faculties brochure outlining the subjects taken? Seems to get vastly different at around year 3 mark and the 4th year subjects make a massive difference. Also UAI cut-off is simply due to supply and demand.

oh crap i forgot to say that i was referring to the Information systems stream for both BIT and BCST. The only difference I can see is the major project and the length of the course.

Yeah, UAI = supply and demand, but BIT has hovered around 95 in the past few years and BCST 75.

AFAIK, they are the same (well, they give you access to do the same subjects) for the first 3 years. The BIT then gives you the option of doing level 4 or 5 (or level 3 if you want) subjects for an extra year.

BIT looks like a Software Engineering degree without some subject restrictions to me (Soft Eng degree you have to do certain subjects in 3rd and 4th year, like a thesis, security and some enterprise stuff)
