B scans (1 Viewer)

I'm kinda confused about B-scans. Excel says "In the B-scan mode a linear array of transducers scan a plane in the body". Ok so if it scans a plane in the body why can't a 2-dimensional image be created from this? Why do they "take a series of B-scans and by plotting them under each other can result in the infromation being displayed in a TV screen as a 2d image" [sector scan]. If it scans a plane, then wouldn't just one b-scan be enough to make a 2d image? I'm lost...

You need an A scan to accompany it.

I believe they are superimposed.

Are you sure? I've never read anything about that. I thought that A-scans were only used for scanning the eye. Even if you're right, i don't understand how it explains my question. :(
