where did you get those numbers from?

I'm under the impression that
45-50= E4
35-45= E3
25-35= E2
0-25= E1

these are aligned HSC marks of course

Ok, from what I've gathered (from a draft performance bands sheet for extension 1 english, equally applicable to ext history) is that for each essay
21-25= E4
16-20= E3
11-15= E2
1-10= E1

So presumably 42+ would get you in the top band.
