And my most updated thread.
_________________________________________________

Hi i'm Bob and i graduated from James Ruse. I also went to Baulkham Hills High in my junior years and i offer tuition for year 7-12 english, with particular focus on the 2008 hsc cohort!

As mentioned in my updated thread, I am busy (but not too much at this time) however when uni starts i will not be able to take many more students. In any case, anybody who organises a lesson with me by the end of January should be guaranteed a spot even when uni arrives.

Email: much.bobness@gmail.com

Mobile: 0433 818 828

Credentials: I have THREE years experience in private teaching. I also have references from teachers, recognised industry professionals and my peers available upon request.

Cost: Not concrete-set at the moment because i've taken a year-long hiatus for my HSC.

Teaching Strategy: My tuition method is focused around YOUR capabilities; however most people with a passion to achieve can definitely hit that top-range and my strategy is to improve your grasp of the fundamental concepts required as well as to continually reinforce the outcomes of the syllabus. But most of all, i will foster your interest in the subject which only random facts like "lolz shakespeare was a bisexual" and "jfk did marilyn monroe ... twice" can do. I believe that "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." William Arthur Ward.

I have also been through numerous private tutors who have contributed to my knowledge and edited notes database. Many of them were ex-students who had themselves scored highly as well as industry professionals including a Doctor of English Literature at USYD who is a friend of Jennifer Strauss a prominent Yeats critic and Dr. Barry Spurr who specialises in poetry and the classics at USYD.

_________________________________________________
1) English Advanced

AOS - Physical Journeys Huck Finn
Module A - Transformations Hamlet/Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Module B - Yeats Poetry
Module C - Telling the Truth Frontline

I can help for all Journeys and its texts (that includes standard english too!) as i believe the strongest arguments are based on the interrelationships of the journeys or at least the understanding of how this dynamic operates. I also switched to Imaginative Journeys Coleridge for the hsc via the professional guidance of two of the strongest poetry critics at USYD. I have a vast array of related materials which will separate your answers from the group as they all exhibit extensive independent research.

For Module B i specialise in critical theories having explored it in preliminary extension english thus i can provide a strong conceptual background for all texts in this module. Psychoanalytical, Marxist, Jungian, Feminist, New Historical, Queer Theory you name it, i've done it.

For Module C i have studied Powerplay 1984 and prepared this as a back up for my hsc in case the frontline question was not to my liking. I am noted for my versatility and wide breadth of DISTINCTIVE knowledge in English which will appeal greatly to creative souls in particular.

2) English Extension One

I do individual and society: browning's poetry, north & south and a doll's house. Again i am most adept at Browning's poetry as i have been rigorously taught by english literature specialists, the form and content of his dramatic monologues and use of cinquains/iambic tetrameter.

I can most understand the slight difference in this extension subject between a 'mediocre' response and a band 6: my first assessment i scored 12/25 but after working on and refining a specific approach i jumped to 20/20 and 12/15 for the next assessments :D. I can show you how. After all as George Smith Patto said "success is how high you bounce when you hit the bottom"

Also i can tutor the elective postmodernism as i had prepared this for my hsc creative and explored this paradigm deeply in my extension two major work.

3) English Extension Two

I will provide guidance and late-night phone calls to pound it into your head NOT TO PROCRASTINATE for this course because believe me that is the only thing that could drag you down seeing that you've advanced this far in your english studies. I can also act as your mentor, allowing weekly emails of MW drafts and/or anxious cries of reassurance for my students.

I have numerous tactics that can help overcome the daunting experience of viva voces, exemplar proposals and reports and a simple explanation of how to write a good reflection statement (even better if you do pomo)

I specialise in postmodernism and short stories however i have experience also in critical theory as my original proposal focused on john milton's epic paradise lost. I can cover other written mediums most competently but should also be adept in more avant-garde text types such as multimedia and film mediums. Most significantly though, the journal process is the key to accessing one's intrinsic creativity, and i intend to help foster material results for all students once their 'fancy' (a Coleridgean sentiment) is found :)

_________________________________________________

I can guarantee that my practical experience and theoretical strengths in English are unsurpassed on this Boredofstudies site. Also I have been encouraged to pursue recognised English Research posts in the future by university academics.

Only HSC markers or present University Lecturers can offer a more integrated English Experience: however my prices are roughly half their going rates.

100% of my 2007 students scored Band 6 in their final English mark!

Looking to hear from prospective students very soon

hey bobness,

becareful about saying how much you'll help with ee2. I'm sure you'll be a pro for proposals, journals, etc, for assessment :) but how about your actual expertise in , for example, programs that would most suit students for videos? Or the difference between metephysical and post-modern poetry?

so you get the idea.

otherwise everything else yousaid, especially about Procrastination, I think you'll do an excellent job! I wish i had someone giving me late-night phone calls talking me out of procrastinating!

Hmm, impressive. One of probably very few humanities-oritentated peoples at JRAHS--am I right? And how did you get to know all these professors and cool people? You sound like a uni academic yourself!

Yes we are a rare breed here in farmland, the humanities is like a barren desert yearning for redemptive rain. Zomg its alliteration and simile framing an archetypal allusion collaborating with subversive allegory

I notice you do pharmacy which seems to attract a lot of the scientifically minded ruse students. How do you find it? Though personally humanities ftw duh !

Concerning the academics and literature specialists, I organised meetings and interviews while contending their tight schedules through email correspondence, and taking the initiative by discussing their research specialisations with them. Postmodernists and creative writers are notorious for being an eclectic but friendly bunch once you get to know them.

Oh the joys of being stalked by a flirtatious minx like lanelle. But i'd still prefer to have students 'stalk' me for a piece of top-quality tuition :)

^_^ its my pleasure to stalk you. Anyway i'm offering VA tuition, just looking at your freaking HUGE tuition spiel for how to set out an advertisement.. *is still reading*

You're too intelligent for your own good. May also want in that Extension 2 thing that you will hound students to write Reflection AT LEAST A MONTH before it is due ;) :p

Goodluck tutoring bobness..

Yes anyone out there, I reccommend this guy because he's not only intelligent but engaging. So you'll get awesome tuition without wanting to fall asleep... ^_^

I have had a growing number of people interested in tuition by phone+msn (together) which has so far worked very well, except you'll have to bring your speakerphone next to your keyboard. The only difference is you won't be surrounded by my friendly ambience, but hey its more flexible i find. Otherwise, rates are very negotiable for this and is especially great if you don't live in the parra region :)
