I love Belinda Carlisle and U2's respective versions of these songs, but find these covers to be extremely underwhelming.

I personally didn't find many good songs in 2004, not compared to previous years anyway.

Favourite of 2004:
American Idiot - Green Day
Runners up:
Bless My Soul - Powderfinger
Mein Teil - Rammstein
Amerika - Rammstein
Last Train Home - Lostprophets
I can't give you what I haven't got - The Living End
Move Over - Betchadupa
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day
Vertigo - U2

By the way, you should all vote in the <a href="http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100">Triple J Hottest 100</a>.

Adios!

LET IT BE - of the re-recorded LET IT BE NAKED
Firstly, that album was re-produced, not re-recorded. It's a bit difficult to re-record an album when two of the people on the album are dead.

Secondly, Across The Universe is and always shall be the best song on that album. There was no reason for a re-production of that album, but nevertheless Across The Universe will always be the best thing about it.

now I Like That and American Idiot got 2 already
This is undoubtedly an idea that is bound to ensure that we really do find out once and for all what the best song of 2004 truly is.

when let it be was recorded there was alot of tension in the band and so none of the songs got finished properly and so the producer went and put string and orcestral score too it.

basically the version just released is how the beatles intended it to sound. ie with out the string section.

that was the point of the re production.

and as for my favourite songs

greenday - american idiot
john butler trio - zebra
killers - mr brightside
franz - take me out
living end - i cant give you what i havent got

That's not 100% accurate. It is how they originally did it, but it was generally agreed that it was a disappointing output from them, hence the album being given to Phil Spector to work on. The fact that George and John had him produce their first solo albums displays that they both quite liked what he did, and it was always Paul who was unhappy with the production job on that album.

Now George and John are dead, and so the album comes out as Paul liked it, with the tagline "The way The Beatles wanted you to hear it". Very egocentric from Paul, as one comes to expect from him these days.

yes i didnt think it was completely accurate

but my point still stands that you were incorrect in saying that there was no point in the reporduction
