best uni for eng (1 Viewer)

I realise that its wrong to over-generalise things, and that there are so many other factors involved in choosing a uni
but from what you've heard of which uni has the best reputation in engineering courses?
just want opinions...

Yes, we will.

One word (well, sort of a word): UNSW.

UNSW USYD UTS (in order of reputation)

and don't believe the rumour that engineering at usyd is entirely theoretical so graduates get screwed when they get employed. I know some usyd engos and they do heaps of practical stuff.

There is mass debate about which uni is the best for engineering... I got screwed over many times whilst i was doing my hsc trying to think which is the best for me... in the end i selected unsw because of its 'prestige' and how good everyone says it is... (Besides that I liked the uni!) But I didn't get into it which landed me into uts... I’m actually not regretting coming to uts

I know some people who went to unsw that have transferred into uts who complained about unsw’s course structure were too cramped... but faculty wise is pretty well great! (But on the other hand people says it’s fantastic!)

Uts - not an overwhelmingly big reputation like unsw... but facilities are pretty substantial. I this uni would be good if u like to do 'hands on' learning as this is what UTS’s engineering core focuses on most.

usyd not too sure about this university, I’m sure its a pretty good uni for engineering and is pretty much on the same level as uts, however the university name does set it apart from uts

OH and don't over look UOW or Newcastle as they aren't too bad!

Unless you want to do something more specialised like aeronautical . In which case you would have to decide between USYD and UNSW.

Well yes, your're completely right. If you want to do something as specialised as that then other universities are the way to go. If you want to definitley (100%) get a job at the end of your studies then I think you should look elsewhere.

I definitely wont go to UoW... uni and 100% employment isnt such an important thing for me ^^

btw.. what exactly do engineers do? is it more like physical work or design & solving problems (and get somebody else to do the physical work)?
I was going to do chem eng but I heard the employment will be in some remote areas... and will be moving places ever now and then... so I might have to consider something else ^^
im so confused about what to choose... I partly like physics & maths.. but they become confusing sometimes.. and the 4U maths is sometimes too tedious... and I dont like it... but I definitely love 3U maths
and I heard theres actually little chem work and much maths & physics in chem eng... is it true? and the chem based course is industrial chem.
if I do electrical eng or mechanical eng, do I need to be able to draw? coz im bad at that
drawing with computer also takes a long time coz I often want pixel & format perfection haha.. that might change though
and.. who in here does double degree? is that a good idea?

Don't worry about being able to draw, they teach you how to do that, especially in Chem Eng.
Engineers are more involved with the design and solving problems though there's also nothing stopping them from getting their hands dirty, in fact, after designing, you're usually required to make it
Every engineering course requires physics and maths and they teach you 4unit maths and even harder stuff so there's no avoiding it.

huh?? oh well.. there's nothing I can do about it
