Well I have attached the diagram and I don't understand the question. Please explain your answer briefly. The next few questions are:

b) Name a substance that you would expect to be present in region Q.

Cellulose? Why?

c) Name the process that occured.

Osmosis. I thought Osmosis was water only...Please explain why it's osmosis...

I lost a heap of marks for this section, and if I didn't, I'd probably be in the top 3 position of my grade. I'd rather get these corrected now than to leave them unanswered and not understood. Thank you.

b) The region Q is called cell wall. Cell wall is made up of cellulose in a cement of pectin.

c) Osmosis is a diffusion of water from the high concentration to low concentration. When the plant cell is put into a salt solution (hypertonic solution), water moves out of the cell membrane to the salt solution to lower the concentration (to balance the concentration evenly).

If you look at your diagram, the cell looks plasmolysed (its water content obviously went out). The cell would be turgid if water went in.

Ah I see Lyounamu. There's another question on the bottom of the diagram. It's more concentrated, but why is it?

Sorry I did not see that question.

It is definitely more concentrated solution as you see your cytoplasm looking plasmolysed (it gave out water). If the cell is placed in more concentration, water goes out from cytoplasm to make the concentrated solution less concentrated.

If it was less concentrated, water would move in from the solution to the cell (hence making cell look like as if it is filled with water - turgid looking cytoplasm).

By the way, what was your rank anyway?
