has anyone read it, im sortof disappointed because i saw the movie first and then found it difficult to read the book afterwards- my mistake, but there was no need in the end for me to keep on reading when someone takes a book and replicates it to film. Changes were made apparently (the setting) but its annoying

dont get me wrong i loved the movie- way better than empire records

the only instance when this want so was lotr- i saw the movies then decided to read the book + the similirian.

Yeah same, I really enjoyed the LOTR films and then struggled through the books.

Anyone like HBO's Band of Brothers? I absolutely fell in love with it.

After watching the mini-series i decided to read the stephen ambrose book which is a great read for any WWII buffs.

D-Day was also another good read, but no were near BoB. I reckon you wouldn't get what the author was talking about unless you understood the scope of the story. There are so many real-life characters from BoB, that unless you haven't watch the mini-series, you would not understand the book on a more aesthetic level.

yeah band of brothers was good- i only saw a parts of it here and there though.

but its on my list of dvd sets to buy if i ever scrap together more than $60/70 and not waste it on something else on the way to the dvds.

After watching Fellowship of the Ring I read the novels and the Hobbit, but couldn't stand the Simillarian. I reckon, after reading the trilogy, that the final movie was disappointing. I kind of felt a little let down with the Fellowship of the ring when I read the part about Bombadil (who was inrteresting), who was left out.

i wasnt a big bombadil fan, but you have to remember theyre making a movie

The Simillarian has to be one of the most confusing books around.

Speaking of Bombadil, I loved Goldberry, she rocked.

i think the opening of the Simillarian was definately slow and boring as hell, but i did continue reading and found the rest of the book ok- not the best, but interesting as to the whole history of the tolkien world

The Silmarillion read liker an elvish bible... really impossible. The histories were interesting if you just read little bits from here and there (since they're written as history books, thats pretty easy) Unfinished Tales is still on my self; untouched The books were great, but hard to get into. The hobbit was good (possibly because it's more of a children's book and easier to follow ) -- Thranduil was in it! doesn't get much better than that (Love that elf! Love Lucius Malfoy from HP simply because he reminds me of the great elevn-king -- and Jason Isaacs of cause )

But LotR was great. Movies were outstanding, cinema history right there. Tom and Goldberry annoyed me in the books, so i was glad that they were left out.. But certain characters like Glofindel, Elrohir, Elladan and Erestor I was pretty disapointed that they were left out (even though I'm sure that the twins were the ones who forged the sword in RotK!) Bits were changed, deleated and added, but in the end, it was a masterpiece

yeah few details were followed as in the book

but they conveyed the feelings/ideas of the book - especially its legacy

i did like the lotr films - but i always liked the books better - i guess with the books u can imagine his characters and places and creatures however u want, but if the directors version doesnt fit urs then u end up feeling disappointed. that said, i was a little let down by the last lotr and some of the detials ignored, but overall i think they did a great job.
oh, i liked the silmarilon, but i can see why some ppl wouldnt - i think its an 'u either luv it or u hate it' type book!
