...to the best of my knowledge they don't change the courses over the summer, so the summer text list is probably a good indication. Last semester I used a text list from a year earlier, and after emailing the course coordinator, bought the books before the list had been released...

Happens more than you think. Usually editions, but I remember a certain subject where in 3 successive semesters they changed the textbook 3 times.

If I were you, I'd purchase the 11th edition. There might only be minor changes (eg. page numbers), but then its a bitch when your in your tute trying to find the equiv. page in your book to what the rest of the class is looking at.

And its two editions old; lots could have changed re: legislation in busl over the past few years.

Buy the new one, and then sell it next semester :)

That's very unladylike of you, MJ... where'd you pick up that verbal habit from? ;)

is busl250 easy enough, like all theory ?
In my opinion, law theory is harder than practical... so hope that its prac. Theory is just more dry and uninteresting whereas with practical, you can apply it to everyday life, which makes it easier to comprehend.

I must admit I don't quite understand the definition of theory vs prac, in the context of law, (to me, everything would be theory short of standing in a courtroom (or equivalent) and carrying it out...), however this is business law: prac would be in the application toward Businesses... I think there'd be an element of examples to add meaning to the wordy legislation, but actual "practical" content...? I can't imagine (given my definition) there'd be much...

ok darling , what I meant in regards to practical vs theory is this:

Theory, to me, refers to the philosophy behind it all, sometimes the legislation (but this comes into play in practical applications too), but just the general history of it all... why such and such a business can be sued for such and such a reason, but not another.

And practical refers to you actually taking the knowledge that you have learned through legislation and precedent cases and seeing them apply in everyday life. Eg. If you worked in, lets say retail, you could take the information that you've learnt from busl250 and apply it at your workplace (thus slowly destroying the company you work for from the inside)

...Well, thats my understanding...

No, chicken.

But you're a smart cookie: you can practically apply it all by yourself, independent of assignments and lecturers :)

i did BUSL25o semester 2 2004 and the prescribed text was gillies which was way too thick, and my tutor juliette told us to buy Gibson which is much more concise, ofcourse i was the only one who did by that book and it helped me heaps. i ended up getting a Distinction even though i used a recommended book. definetly get gibson

just gibson or both gibson and gillies?

Hell No! Just Gibson (way too expensive to buy both of them). U wont use it much but Gibson has some good case studies and is easier to read!
