hmm well telstra is starting to build its fibre optic network anyway, so we should see such speeds in a few years

That's not for Australia.. in Europe their connections are already like 10x ours.

dude cable is unlimited, they dont need to change anything except just remove the caps. there is no limit for cable!

and of course have faster processors to handle data rate!

there is a theoretical limit to the speed of cable, but the isp does control it down.

and i think its about Asutralia becuase the news source is Australian

nope! thats limit that telstra puts on it!

its also limited by your computer!
Can you explain this?

If there is no limit to the infrastructure - why implement a new cable infrastructure when we could send an unlimited amount of data down copper wires and use the phone line system instead? Why use fibre optics for high bandwidth transfer when we can use 1mm copper wires? Why use coaxial cable for broadband cable and not UTP?

Whoo so much bandwidth..
"Based on our research 30Mbps is the absolute minimum in future homes."
I reckon 30Mbps is good enough upgrade from the current 3~5Mbps (i think) cable bandwidth.
CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!! oh crap next year i'll probably be in uni OH NO!!

no... using current technology coxial cables are limited to 10Mbps.

refer to sunny's post.

But this speed can be increased using new technologies, just like how ADSL2+ is able to squeeze 24Mbps through standard phonelines.

I really don't see the point of speeds in excess of 10Mbps unless they remove download limits. That to me is the more important change they can make instead of increasing speeds. What's the point of 100Mbps when all you can do is download for a few minutes (factoring in limitations of the infrastructure) before you have to pay more or you get speed capped?

It'd be cool to also increase the uploading cap imposed from 128 to 512kbps (at least).
On cable plans... coz at 128, u only get a stable top speed of 16KBps

cable isn't just for internet...

it is also for more Pay TV channels.

Yeh.. this would also decrease lag when using a digital cable pay tv. You notice some lag when opening up a programme's description and when downloading data (especially "the weather channel" with their country maps and stuff)
