who's seen it? i found it entirely engrossing, though it left me a little cold. hoffman's performance is great, but there's been so much hype for him to the point that watching him is almost like deciding whether he's really that good. still, his oscar win will be deserved, i guess.

might wanna check it out again.

Yes I thought it was a great film. Hoffman lived up to all expectations. Acting was universally outstanding. I found it quite amazing that I was so engrossed within a character that I held considerable contempt against. There were times when I hated Capote, but Hoffman managed to make sure the way he was portrayed was consistently relevant. Very good.

It is a great marketing tool for penguin books though. I almost ran to the library when it was finished to read In Cold Blood.

My only major criticism was the music, which I found to be very cliched and didn't fit with the tone of the film. Something more sombre and fresh from perhaps Thomas Newman would have worked far, far better. Take all the incidental music from Shawshank and use it in Capote (no themes though).

Hmm.. I didn't see this thread earlier. Yes, Clifton Collins jr. was incredible, definitely my choice for best supporting actor. His performance was, I thought, nearly as good as Hoffman's, so it's a shamed he wasn't considered.

Tell me, what was it that Brokeback Mountain, Munich and Crash had that made them the favourites over Capote and Good Night and Good Luck?

They're more accessible. Clooney's film is too "arty" for mainstream audiences, Capote's content isn't engaging for those who aren't prepared to engage within it. The other three were/could be emotionally affecting without a huge level of audience participation.
