A fairly simple question I know, however it's complicated by my choice of expressive forms; namely a collection of works consisting of mixed and multi media. Splatter painting and print making going into a collage plus a wee bit of sculpture. Admittedly it's quite convoluted but I need help specifically with this case study and not my BOW.
I'm fine with covering print making, sculpture etc but I need information on the idea of a "collection of works". It seems that most artists present something like this in exhibitions that revolve around a theme and that some of the considerations in such a process include whether an artwork contributes or detracts from the overall collection. However apart from "the need for selectivity" I've got squat.
Are there any other conventions, considerations or practices employed by artists in making a collection of works? Any exemplary artists who are particularly known for doing so? I haven't really gotten a grasp of the concept yet and I'm quite jealous of my friend who just has to look at sculpture.
