Hello everybody, this is my first post. I am in year 11 in Australia and doing: English advanced, English extension 1, Mathematics, Mathematics extension 1, Biology, Drama, Modern History (by distance grr) , Ancient History. = 14 units.
In my half yearly exams i got:
English advanced - 72%
English extension - 72%
Mathematics - 73%
Maths extension - 38%
Modern History - estimated 80% (B)
Ancient History - 64%
Drama - no exam
Biology - 91%
I didn't finsh my ancient paper cos i ran out of time (we had to do 2 mini essays and 1 big one as well as short answer) and i wasn't motivated to study. I want the rundown on subjects because I am thinking of changing. I am good at Bio so maybe i should do another science like chem. I don't like ancient :mad1: so i should change that. Is chem boring? really hard? compared to bio? ancient worth it? It seems that everyone that does ancient gets a good uai. I did it partly becuase of that and i liked the teacher and i didn't like anything else in that line. I came first in bio and maths maybe 4th in math extension, 2nd in english extension, no idea about others - probably about average.
I think i should definetly keep - english (have to ), mathematics, Biology, Modern History, Drama,
Modern seems so essential in my all round education about the world and is quite interesting. I will probably drop ancient next year and keep the extensions. so i have 12 units.
Drama is my easy subject that i can get a good uai in without too much effort as i am quite good at it. I came first in Drama last year (10).
I can't stop thinking about my subjects (it is quite important). So what are the subjects like? What do you think i should do? I am good at maths and especially bio.

Oh and by the way i got the following in my year 10 school certificate:
English - 91%
Maths - 77% ( i didn't see that there was a third section to the paper)
Science - 89%
History - 91%
Geography - 93%

I want to go to uni but don't know what course. Maybe medicine. I want to keep my options open but i don't think i'd enjoy chem and i would only do it if i was positive about medicine it would be a waste if i didn't do med. I can always do a bridging course.
Oh and have a completly guessing estimation of my uai (based on school certificate and half yearlies)
So sorry about the rave, thanks for helping if you do.
This year i think i like science.
I want my estimated UAI, a low down on the subjects (liked? easy?) and what subjects should i do?

Choose your subjects based on the following criteria:
  • Your own subject interest
  • Your performance
  • Your level of need for the particular subject (due to your preferred university course)
  • Teacher & student & class environment (Am I serious? Yes, you would never know how much teacher & students can influence your decision)
  • Scaling of the subject
Looking at your subjects & results, they are quite good. I do recommend you to maintain your marks especially in Biology. Why do you want to do Chemistry? Don't you think it's a bit late? I am already up to the energy module now (which is like the last chapter in the Preliminary year). Even though you might be good at bio, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will be good at Chem. I came first in Bio with 94% as well. But my result in Chem is abysmal. (81% overall) compared to Bio.

Chem is extremely boring for me. I am going to drop it so I don't have to worry about it.
