So, I want to compress a file and it's like 18MB and when I zip it it's still about 17MB. Is there any other way to do it?

depends on what type of file it is

if it's a file that already uses high compression, you won't get it down any further

if you want to break the file into smaller parts, use WinRAR or something like that.

How would I find out if files use high compression?

It's a quicktime movie

Quicktime movies are largely high-quality and can usually be compressed at a better rate.

Not sure with what though, don't really use it

i barely compress files anyway.

the only reason why i'd zip/rar anything is to keep it in 1 file.

<20Mb is considered 'small' anyway unless you're emailling, but there's alternative ways of file transfer.

Ok thanks everyone, yeah I'm emailing, I think I will resort to the old burn-and-hand to the person method.

but how do you put the file back together? the person i am emailing to wouldn't be bothered to do anything technical

but i have been interested in something similar - 2 hour ilectures don't fit onto 1 cd. how can i split the audio file so that i can put it onto 2 cds?
