My assessment task asks for an oral presentation on vietnam war historiography. i was wondering if anybody had any suggesstions for structure e.g. causes, impact/reslut.

Furthermore it is essential we provide point of view for both sides e.g. American suppourt, i was wondering if anybody knows of historigoraphy which isnt your general criticusm of american policy being ineffective and lack of understanding e.t.c. Yet moreso suppourts America and defends its cause, im assuming anything that is criticisum of Nth vietnamese nd VC would also be suppourtive for US.

NEED HELP!! on both aspects, yet more so the secound!!!

VERY URGENT

Bad luck about the assessment it looks pretty hard lol. This is basically all I have on US support for the war but im not sure that its exactly what you want.

Quote here from G. Kolko about America post 1945:
"The regulation of the world was at once the luxury and the necessity it (the US) believed its power afforded... as a fulfillment of an international responsibility and mission."

By JFK:
"that the United States never give its approval to the early nationwide elections called for by the Geneva Agreements of 1954. Neither the United States nor Free Vietnam is ever going to be a party to an election obviously stacked and subverted in advance, urged upon us by those who have already broken their own pledges under the agreement they now seek to enforce."

"It is clear to the people of Vietnam and to the United States that the independence and territorial integrity of Vietnam are being virtually and systematically violated by Communist agents and forces from the north. It is also clear to both governments that action must be strengthened and accelerated to provide the legitimate rights and aspirations of the people of free Vietnam to choose their own way of life... Free Vietnam cannot alone withstand the pressure which the Communist empire is exerting against it."

LBJ on 4/8/64 (Tonkin Gulf Incident):
"Repeated acts of violence against the armed forces of the United States must be met not only with alert defence, but with positive reply."

LBJ 01/65:
"I am determined to make it clear to all the world that the US will spare no effort and no sacrifice in doing its full part in turning back the communists in Vietnam."

summary: that US support and justification for war was entirely based on the Domino Theory and the ideological belief that communism was basically evil. I dont know how much help all that is but good luck anyway.
