Can someone please explain the differences between computer engineering, software engineering and computer science and which is most difficult?

Um, I'll take a punt and say that:

~Computer Eng. is the design of computer hardware
~Software Eng. is the design of high level software (like coding programs)
~Computer Sci. is using what the two above Engineers have made and putting it to good use.

Not exatly true.

Comp Eng: Programming, Physics and Electroincs. Hardware.

Soft Eng: Programming and Management.

Comp Sci: Programming. Lots of choice.

No course is more difficult than the other (Igonore the UAI, it dosn't reflect difficulty). It is the indvidual subjects that make it difficult, and you can make all three degrees look pretty much the same, so difficulty is basically the same.

Very true :D

So far, I've done almost exactly the same things as comp eng with my electives with some info sys added to it.

If you are unsure of what field of computer you are interested in yet, comp sci is a good choice to start off with until you make up your mind, or you could just stick with it.

TOTALLY AGREED :D:D

IMO this question is frequently asked by yr 12s who like programming and who wants to do some computing course in uni, perhaps someone could type a brief yet comprehensive description of this three courses? Unfortunately I don't have the enough information to provide :(

difference b/w comp engg, soft engg, comp sci and IS

as requested by gman03 ..... many ppl dont seem to know the difference. so here it is!

comp engg :
involves programming, maths, physics and electronics. u'd choose this if u are interested in hardware development etc. a lot of core subjects, few electives.

soft engg :
involves programming, IS, project management and workshops. this is to do with the development of software systems on a large scale. it involves a special set of courses calld the software engg workshops which run for the first 3 yrs. no other course offers this. specially designed for soft engg. few cores, lots of electives.

comp sci :
this course can be tailor made to look like either the soft engg or the comp engg course. a large number of electives. as sunny mentioned, choose this if u want to do one of the engg's but cant decide which one. u can always transfer later.

IS :
involves very little programming, and a lot of application and designing. emphasis on project management and the use of CASE tools (u need to be a good bs'er to do the exams :p)

hope this helps :)
