So I was reading the forums at 5:42am.. and a hint of curiosity just struck me. You people that go to university.. do you find that you know ANYONE from your high school in your course? If so how many?

Also do you see others around the place?

I know of a whole bunch of guys from my year at school who are headed for UNSW and I know a few guys who will also be in my course.

As for whether I'll see them around, I'll have to wait til I actually get to uni

Good question. It depends on the school you go to. If you're from selective the chances are that you will definitely see people from your highschool. Just look at your friends, are they working hard? If they are, the chances that you will see them is pretty high.

~50 people from my school are going to the same uni as me. At least 15 in my faculty, and 3 doing my course.

So i'll be suprised if i didnt bump into some of them.....

But yeh, depends on what school you went to.

We have 39-> USyd, 37->UNSW, ~25->UTS, ~25->UOW, a few to CSU and then random people going to a few obscure places.

I've got two good friends doing the same degree, and we've all picked a common subject to do together (although there are others in engineering and whatnot also doing different classes with me).

When we went to UOW last year for a discovery day as a grade, we ran into lots of people from the year before. So, I guess, it really depends how big your school was and how many are going to your uni.

When I came to UNSW, it was just myself and one other girl from my year. From 04's graduates, there was just one.

I only know one guy from my school that's in my course (civil engineering). The rest are doing med, commerce or optom... that's what happens when you go to a smart high school :p

I hardly ever see any of the other guys around uni. At best it'd be like once a month because of timetable differences, and because the uni is really so big you wont be likely to bump into them all that often - well, the collenade usually has commerce people in it, but they're usually playing pool and too busy to talk to me :p

Yep, lol probably even if they're doing the same course as you do, there's no guarantee that the timings will be exactly the same, although it's nice to have ppl you know from your high school, I find it being better to head into classes with people I don't know...so that I can know more ppl.

Lmao, from my school, almost all the girls went to do B teaching either primary or secondary. Then the others went into media arts or foodscience or comp science.

Though its most likely, that if both you and your friends are doing science courses, that you may be able to meet up in the same classes on your timetable.

P.s. XD Though remember, the really smart ppl are those who can keep up a GPA of 75 or above for the first 3-4 years of their preferred course, or even just scoring 75 or above in their first year. Cos like I knew a couple of friends who went to selective high schools in u.s. and got into med, they kept failing either in the first year or the second, so then they moved on to do easier courses like b sciences. :p

I only know of two people doing B Education, and one is a guy - the other is my next door neighbour :p

Yeah there's usually heaps of science students doing similar subjects with people from other faculties such as engineering so it's cool in that respect. But after 1st year, you see less and less of them as your subjects get more specialised.

And you'd find that even if you combined 100 of the smartest people in history into one super human, they wouldn't be able to achieve a GPA 75 ;) I think you got WAM and GPA confused lol! Anyway, 75 isn't exactly hard to get if you put in a bit of work. You definitely don't need to be smart to get it either, you just need to be dedicated.

I started university when i was 20 so most of the people from school were in their final year. I do bump into some girls around campus and i did have one girl in one of my classes (arts tends to have randoms as they are trying to fill electives) but other than that there isnt anyone in my actual course from my school that i know of. In some ways thats nice though, at least you dont have to worry about past issues or personality conflicts haunting you in university.

Progress always involves risk: how can u steal second base while leaving your foot on the first?

Dont let your highschool friends keep you in the same dam social circle.
Dont be afraid to open new sets. Go, get out there, stop worrying.

NB: I noticed that the ruse kids rarely mix outside... esp in med, since they have so many people from ruse going there. They're still stuck in their little world.
