I know conventional current is the flow of positive charges and real current is the flow of electrons. But when a question just asks for current, is current the flow of positive charges to the negative terminal?

It's from positive to negative terminal.

They will always ask for conventional current unless specified otherwise.

Current is the flow of electric charge. Electric charge may be either electrons or ions.

the called one direction the +'ve direction and called it current (we say conventional current because its purley convention).. they then later discovered that the electron flow is in a direction opposite to this.. however current still means this conventional current and is always opposite to electron flow direction.
