Musicians these days. Sheesh.

If the audience love you and want you to play more, why the hell would you not appease them and play another song? After all, if you lose your fans - then you're gone. You will never have to play an encore again, because the only fan of your group is the lead singer's mum or something.

I'm a fan of genuine encores, I agree with the Art vs Science line that they lack spontaneity at the moment. If a band absolutely kills and the audience are enthralled then it's great when they come back and play a few old favourites or whatever but factoring it into their staged set I find tacky and contrived. I once saw Rufus Wainwright do Hallelujah in the encore I mean come on.
