Hey I was looking at last years paper and I couldnt do question 24 b).
And then I tried finding those kinda questions in our textbook and couldnt find any. Then I checked the syllabus under financial maths and it doesnt say anywhere there about taxable income, gross income etc. Whats the deal? did the syllabus change?

24b? we did tax and things in year 11 (prelim course) and in the hsc maths paper 30% of it is prelim stuff..
anyway
i) all you do is times 900 by 12 and add it to 58624 to find the taxable income
ii) using the tax table you find which bracket it falls into (66601+) and just do what the table says.. add 17730 plus 48 cents for every $1 over 66000, which ends up being $19373.52 for both jobs.. then because the question says she paid 14410.8 tax for job one u put in 19373.52-14410.8 to find the tax for job 2
iii) ugh i hate show that questions
anyway using the 4962.72 which you got from the part (ii) answer you divide it by 12 (to get the monthly tax payable) then you minus the tax from her monthly income (900) to get her net monthly income
iv) use the future value of an annuity formula.. m=468.44, r=0.04/12, n=24
