if one does b ec and one does b commerce, and they both major in economics, can they be in same subjects? like attend the same lectures?

Yes.
In first year, the subjects are exactly the same for both. However you get to pick electives (you can pick one subject for each semester, which is apart of your major - assuming you're not doing a double degree).
