Difference between describe and explain

hello,

this might sound like a stupid question, but i was wandering wat was the difference between describe and explain.

I know the defintions of them both:
Describe: provide characteristics and features
Explain relate cause and effect, or make the relationship between the two and show why and how.

But i dont know how to answer the dot pts, using these keywords. They always seem so similar to me!

its because they are, if you answer the question... you get the mark.
In most cases, if 2 questions, one started with explain and the other with describe then the rest of the question were the same, then if you wrote the exact thing for both (obviously it must be correct statements) you will get full marks for both of the questions.

explain: relate cause and effect; make the relationships between things evident; provide why and/or how.

therefore the difference is that one is asking for a list, and the other is asking for a comparison, or asking for reasons.

every preliminary and hsc student has a copy of key words for each of their subjects.you were right, this was a stupid question.

thnx rong turn u have helped me, u sound a bit rude there. I have the glossary of key words. I just didnt understand the difference between them and while i was reading the hsc's markers criteria i saw a hsc marker write it, so i just decided to ask
