I'm not sure. You could check your local newspaper for advertisements.

If the teacher asks you to do a lot of practice essays, then yes.

$50 is a lot of money. I think $20-$30 is the standard rate. Do more research to check if you're being ripped off.

Nah i think 50 is reasonable...that's how much my english tutor charges and he's a nsw teacher...oh and i'm trying out a tutor for some other subjects, he's coming over today. He charges $40 per hour but i want him for two subjects- 1 hour each so thats about $80...but i gotta see if he's any good tho...

Sorry, i didnt realise the tutor was a teacher. I guess it would be more expensive because it is a teacher. Iwouldn't know if that is reasonable or not.

you get the tutor to do what YOU want. Sometimes they'll give you work, but it will only help you...oh yeah and my marks have improved heaps after getting an english tutor because you go ahead and practise writing essays that you can just rehash in class. Best think is to get them to analyse every word in your essay to give you as much advise as possible...

yes, chemistry at "Master Coaching" 35$ an hour.
they 'employ' school teachers, and i'm sure the business would take a percentage of the 35$ from the teacher/tutor, so i'm guessing the teacher would only get about 25$ from the hour.

Yes I have seen results: in year 11 I had a piss-easy teacher who gave us NO practice essays, and then in year 12, I had a different teacher who gave us a lot of practice essays for h/w and a few to do in class within 40 minutes. The result: I went from 70 (in the year 11 yearly) to 94 in the HSC. Enough said :p

$40-$70 is standard rate for a teacher to tutor you.
and
uni students charge $20-$50 usually.

Getting a tutor DOES benefit you, unless they're just regurgitating what your teacher is saying, then that's a waste of money. Try a tutor out and if they don't suit you then don't keep them on. It's your money they're wasting. I got tutored for English...adv and ext 1 and had two mentors for ee2 out of school. I wasn't struggling, but I did considerably well with the tutors. I ended up getting high 90s for my english subjects instead of low 90s which I would have gotten without my tutors. But just make sure u get a tutor who's going to help you.

thanks for that. i would be getting high 80s not low ninetees. thats in year 11 that is i got about 87-88ish.
i would love to be able to get mid 90s for both englishes (esp adv cos i know its more attainable) but i know its hard work. hopefully a tutor will push me up to that...lets see if it works. ive got my first lesson on friday
