here are some pics, what’s the difference, is the content easier in one book? is one more for building fundamentals and the other is more for students wanting to take on harder qs??

I've had the 2nd textbook, cambridge, for Year 10 5.3 . It was a pretty good textbook and had challenging questions if I remember well. I can't really compare both books as I only used that one for Year 10 since our school gave it but it was more than plenty for learning and if I remember correctly, it had questions that were slightly beyond the scope for better students.

The textbook you'd want to purchase is the CambridgeMATHS NSW Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum. The Essential Mathematics textbook is not relevant to NSW. This textbook is appropriate for the following states/territories:
  • Queensland.
  • Australian Capital Territory
  • Northern Territory
  • South Australia
  • Tasmania
  • Victoria
  • Western Australia
A feature of this textbook is that it includes 10A content. Some information about 10A content:

The 10A content descriptions are optional and are intended for students who require additional content to enrich and extend their mathematical study whilst completing the common Year 10 curriculum. It is not anticipated that all students will attempt the 10A content, but doing so would be advantageous for those intending to pursue Mathematical Methods (Course C) or Specialist Mathematics (Course D) in the senior secondary years. A selection of topics from the 10A curriculum can be completed according to the needs and interests of students.

Ensure that the mathematics textbooks you purchase are all made for the NSW curriculum.

I hope this helps! 😄

okay thanks so much!! this helped a lot, so would “10A” stand for 10 advanced??
No worries. I don't think the A in 10A stands for anything, although it could stand for Advanced, or perhaps Additional. Regardless, you shouldn't worry about purchasing this textbook and attempting to complete questions/exercises from it (such as 10A ones) because those fall within the curriculums of other states and would not be appropriate/relevant to the NSW Year 10 Mathematics curriculum.

I edited my above reply to include more accurate information :)
