Does it really matter if ur coming 2nd but the guy coming first is like 8-9 marks ahead of you? (in terms of final assess/HSC mark distribution)

does the Bo Studies actually take into account the big gap or just use the ranks

Yes the BOS takes account of the gap between the people.

As said by Lazarus, the ratio of the marks between the students are prevserved when calulating the moderated assessment marks.

It's important when calculating the -moderated- assessment mark.

Your marks are used to show the relative differences between the students, thats why the marks come into play. But technically rank is just as important.

The reason is this the case is because you obviously can't compare marks between different schools. It would be unfair if one school had hard exams/markers while another had it easy going. Therefore ranks are used as well as the difference in marks between the students.

It won't make -that- much of a difference, but still a difference nonetheless.

Every mark counts if you are trying to aim for the high 90's.

Let's consider a situation. If the person whose ranked first is on 90 raw mark (RM) and you come second with (case 1 -) 89 and (case 2 -) 80. And the rest of the class gets 70.

Then in the Exam, the top person gets 90 and the second person gets 85. And the rest get 50 (assumin' they all have a bad day).

Then in case 1, the Assessment mark for the person ranked 2nd would be around 87-88. Whereas for case 2, the mark would be around mid-70s.
