Do higher ranking schools e.g James Ruse have greater scaling than lower ranking schools? Seeing as all the JR kids do well in their subjects and HSC, would that mean that they are scaled up more? Or is everyone scaled up the same way without taking into account the school rank? Thanks

School ranks have no impact whatsoever on scaling or the calculation of your marks. The strength of your cohort however, will have an impact on how your internal marks are calculated. School rank itself is meaningless.

JR gets good marks because the students do well in the HSC.

Please remember that "school rankings" are something made after the HSC results are released, they are independently made on a "dodgy" calculation (ie. how many band 6's), and these so called rankings aren't even Board of Studies endorsed.

Having a tight cohort with marks with a low standard deviation does help when internal marks are scaled

School ranks has no impact whatsoever on your ATAR, it won't affect scalling or anything

However the relative performance of your cohort will. (I said relative performance, so this includes the ranks of your classes)
