Doom 3 - warning - spoilers

For those who actually finished it, do you find it a bit too similar to Half Life?

how similar is Half life compared to Doom...

remember Doom was out in early 90s

why do you think there is so much hype about doom?
well maybe for the graphics but it more because of the first generation PC gamers who loved the game back then and hope to play the new version

Half Life - Experiment goes wrong, makes a portal to another dimension, aliens everywhere, a lot of dead bodies, you are stuck in the middle, you meet some people who tries to help you, you try to make your way to the labs to find out how to fix the problem, you then travel to aliens homeworld and close the portal by knocking out the boss.

Doom 3 - Evil professor makes a portal to another dimension, demons everywhere, a lot of dead bodies, you are stuck in the middle, you meet very little people who tries to help you, you travel to the labs to find out what went wrong, you travel to hell to find the ultimate weapon, then come back to your world to close the final gate by destroying the boss.

IMO, I really think it's just a remake of Doom with a great atmosphere with a few added extras.

If by 'it' you mean Doom 3, id software told us all that's exactly what it was going to be, quite a while ago

doom3 is one fucking scary game.

*walks into room, lights turn off one by one, next thing you know its almost pitch black. Then from the side, BAM an imp claws you*

fuckin makes you jump so many times.

but 1337 game nonetheless.

i hate it when weird things happen like things start flying around the room, but actually nothing happens

Nah, I don't think so. I don't know, but I've been hearing alot of this 'Doom 3 similar to Half Life' recently, but personally I just don't seem to feel the similarities.

In terms of scariness, yes this game is scary, but not as scary as I thought it would be.. even with the new hardware I purchased recently, cranking this game up to High, 12*10, 2/8.AA/AF, I'm not finding this game overly scary. A few shocks here and there, but not pissing my pants scary which I originally anticipated.

In terms of pure scary FPS, I think System Shock 2 is still the best. F.E.A.R outta change that when it comes out next year though.

Anyway, overall a great game. Now the wait for Half Life 2 intensifies.

I couldn't say whether HL ws ripped of Doom having never played original doom but doom3 is stranegly like HL just graphically better and scarier but with less thinging needed.

One place that struck me particularly he service lift u ride to get into the caverns familiar anyone? HL rains head crabs as u go down and its just b4 u jump from box to box suspended above an abys.

HL2 will cane doom3, even if it is a plot rehash the vids i've seen its graphics are greater.
