Hi everybody! long time lurker first time poster,

I am currently in the process of choosing a degree in addition to my law degree (which I am set on) @ UOW. I have the following options available

B Commerce
B Science
B Engineering
B Arts
B International Studies.

I would confess I am not entirely an arts/international studies kind of person, though i do like psychology (but i have no background to it through the HSC)

I do like the look of engineering (and to a much lesser extent, science) but I am not entirely sure how this would synergise with a law degree and my potential career options through engineering/law.

Commerce is definitely a popular option, and I do enjoy what is on offer there, so currently it would be a toss off between engineering/law and commerce/law.

If possible, could you give reasons why you would choose which degree and particularly which majors would have the best synergy with law.

Thanks guys!

Depends on your reason for choosing the degree.
Commerce would boost your knowledge (ie. you can study business law etc.) if you wanted to do commercial law or something like that, or get into other finance/banking related stuff, so it supplements a law degree. Also if you ever wanted to start up your own law firm or something you would have fundamental knowledge of the business side of things.

But engineering doesn't really have anything in common with law (i think), so what you would have is 2 very different degrees, and hence the opportunity to pursuit careers in two different industries, or even have a career change halfway through your life.
