I notice uni's differ between 4 year undergraduate double degrees and 5 year undergraduate double degrees

hey do you guys think its better to do a four year degree in commerce and something else (doing 2 years equivalent of commerce subjects) or a five year commerce and someting degrees (doing 2.5 or so equivalent years of commerce subjects)

Although you get out a year earlier in the 4 year double degree and thats 1 extra year of experience/1 earlier year that you'll make CEO or something, on the other hand, you get a wider breadth of knowledge (e.g more finance, economics, accounting, management, stats knowledge outside your core major)

Is the less knowledge worth the getting out of uni a year earlier. Are institutions disadvantaging their students to choose 4 year double degrees over 5 year double degrees or vice versa?

well for unsw you cant double major in a degree for a double degree program (bcom/ba, bcom/bec excepted). that means you do nearly every course available for your major which would imply that you actually 'learnt' more about your specialisation (but everyone says that uni teaches you nothing for the real world) than someone who did a double major or major/minor sequence in a single degree. you supplement that knowledge with a good complementary major in the other degree and that would imply that it is an advantage.

in nsw, for the non-law and non-arts double degrees, they are all four years except at usyd where they are five years. i believe unless you are doing com/law, five years at uni is a serious disadvantage if you are seeking a job in business.

with that said, single three-year degree with double major in accounting and finance is probably the smartest thing to do overall.
