how do you find out how much stuff you download / upload on broadband or dial-up? Are you suppose keep track or is there some download/upload counter? And do viewing pages count as downloading?......i'm not a very experienced net user

What ISP are you with ?

Most offer a 'usage metre' of some sorts, found in your account properties, if you log into their website. Telstra Bigpond offers a usage metre you can download, and there is a usage metre plugin for the Firefox Browser too.
