I heard from my Legal Studies teacher or someone in my Legal Studies class that the drop-out rate for Law at UOW is quite high. Can anyone confirm that and does it make it easier to transfer from different courses into law during 2nd year?

Well, of the 1 person I know who did law at UoW, the drop out rate was 100%. I think this is an accurate statistic lol.

That's a pretty huge dropout rate. No wonder they claim 100% employment rates for their law graduates, there's probably only one or two people who actually graduate :p

lol

I personally think it is NOT bad having a high drop out rate. In a way it is good cause it shows UOW is not scalling the marks so everyone passes, therefore they are having a high quality graduate. I spose on the other hand ppl could say the course isn't any good cause it isn't meeting the students needs.

My sister reckons those figures are similiar to her drop out rate for COmmerce/IT at ANU...

But why is the drop-out rate particularly high for woolongong, technically?

Is this a law thing or a UOW thing?

its a thing thing...
i reckon coz law is hard as course already, but the people who get into these law courses only need a uai of 91.00 and they are not necessarily smart as in USYD smart but not dumb as well. becoz of the low cutoff , people who are not as "USYD smart" cannot handle the intense studying required by law courses and hence drop out?
this is just my gay theory, plz dont start to crucify me, if u think about it...it really does make sense......UOW law is 91.00 wheras USYD law is 99.60
maybe if the uai cut off was increased..."smarter" people would get into the course, thus allowing for a greater retention rate.

(i know im being hypocritical here as im doin UOW law too...but i think my argument is quite justified)

and pls dont misunderstand my above post...im not meaning to say UOW law ppl are dumb......just not as readily prepared for law as the people from USYD coz its such a demanding course...

(although exceptions do occur if u r fully passionate about the law course)

In a way I kind of understand and agree with what you are saying. If it wasn't for their lower cutoff I wouldn't be doin law
The candidature at USYd and UNSW is obviously higher than UOW (we should hope so anywayz lol)

yayyy!!!!!...someone agrees!
so yea ahem.....
like i was saying...if they wanted to make the retention rates incxrease in low, than the cut off should or would be higher...
enuff sed..lol
