Sounds like a really dumb question

I have NFI what type of dvd blanks my dvd recorder supports.

I just bought a spindle of 50 and it's not supported.
The spindle is
1-4x / DVD-R

My dad took home some DVD blanks, and they worked perfectly.
But all it said on it was DVD-R
Dunno the speed.

Burner is a Iomega something
but it does +R/-R/+RW/-RW
dual and all jazz

I've used 3 diff burning software all reporting incompatible media

so NFI

If u can tell me your product number i can find out for you, i.e open your case and read the label, or box you got it in ...

NEC 1300 ? Very popular drive..

Theres a list of branded media that has been tested, and rated, "good" "mixed" and "poor"

Thats what i do when shopping for dvd blanks.

atm - im very happy with my RITEK -R, x4 speed , using nero 6.

Model number and the brand of the DVD recorder would be great. I would've said DVD-R would be a better choice +R, too =\

\edit\ DVD-R is rated to burn at 4x in your recorder ( source )

\edit2\ What brand are the blanks ? Good quality disks or elcheapo ones?

It appears from my link above, elcheapos, aka "princo" - out of 34 reviews, 10 rated "POOR" , 24 good.

whilst more common, and slightly expensive blank "RITEK" - 22 good, 2 poor, 1 mixed.

Never had a problem with princos, you can even burn them way faster than their rating. They play fine on my Xbox and uber cheap DVD player. What u have to look out for is the REALLY bad discs, like the ones in Strathfield car radio, which aren't really even very cheap, but I was desperate so I got some. Like half of them failed.
I got some cheap 8X riteks of the net and they are really good as well.

I bought Laser 4x dvd-r from Strathfield
in my first 20 discs, about 10 of them had many files which are unreadable
Now I have to burn the rest at 2x to make sure they all work.. grr

btw fatmuscle.. have u tried a firmware update?
u can probably try a few different firmwares on http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1517

I'll buy your discs for around $10 :D

I've used the same Riteks for about a year and they have never failed on me.
