Economics Research Problem [Govt. & the Economy] Please Help (1 Viewer)

I have an assessment coming up that requires me to research how and why some Govt. Monopolies have been abolished by allowing comptetion. I know that Telstra allowing the establishment of Optus in 1992 (i think) is an example, but i cannot find any information regarding how and why it allowed the establishment of Optus.

I also have some idea as to why Telstra would be established as a Govt. Monopoly in the first place, but not why they would allow a second player (Optus) in the market, thus creating an Ogliopoly.

Some answers would be nice, but a push in the right direction would be even better. Perhaps some links to some info, or...well anything would be MUCH appreciated. Seriously, i've just spent 45 mins trying to find some information - to no avail.

Economics help - just a quick question.

Can anyone point me towards the direction of laws passed in 1992 onwards that:

Allowed Optus to become the 2nd telecommunications operator in the Australia
Made the telecommunications industry free for all?

(time is of the essence at this point, so there is a fair degree of urgency in me asking these questions)

You can also use the 4 pillars of australia's banking system.

Could be useful, but i'll have to see how to intergrate this into the assignment.
