Hi
i was just browsing the unsw site and looked at the course
Bioprocess Engineering
and in the program structure..

And ONE of:

CHEM1011 Fundamentals of Chem 1A (6 UOC)
CHEM1031 Higher Chemistry 1C (6 UOC)

if we were to do this course, we select one of the above electives to study,
but what incentive is there for students to undertake the harder course (im assuming 'higher; chemistry is more difficult than fundamentals, judging from the course outlines)

thank you for your time

the only incentive is if your looking for a challenge, or if you need it as a prerequisite for some other hard subject in the future

generally with fundamentals, you'll be unable to do a few subjects in later years. however, there won't be many subjects that would be affected by that, and it really depends on what you plan to do later. If you are doing harder subjects later on, that involve chem, then its suggested you at least do the normal chem course (the one between fundamentals and higher)

otherwise, there's no incentive. if your thinking of changing to another course, or med, then only the marks matter. they'll only see if you did higher or not for the last stage of processing, if they feel the need to check up on that in a selection process.

basicly, if your very confident in your ability with chemistry then perhaps taking a more challenging subject like that higher chemistry one would be more beneficial. and besides, when you enrol there will be academic advisors there which you can discuss your options with.
