hay guys ive got a litttttle bit of a problem.

my computer keeps freezing and restarting and bringing up error msgs and a whole lot of other shit.

yesterday i installed a new program on there "videozilla" (a media file convertor e.g mov to mpeg, mpeg to avi etc.) this worked fine. Anyway i decided to convert a very large avi file to an mpeg, this took hours and i left my computer on all night.

the next morning/afternoon i had to restart because all i got was a black screen. after restarting i noticed a noise coming from my computer, probably the hard drive (a small "squeak squeak" every 2 or 3 seconds).

I got error msgs from windows saying eg /watever/docandsettings/folder has been deleted?

after this my computer would work for about 5 secs then freeze, stop and squeak for about 15. then eventually the screen turns blue, with white text with lots of numbers and "kmode? etc*******".


soooo,
is this a virus? or is my hard drive just physically dieing?
please help
it HAD my study notes on there and it wasnt practical for me to backup.

Have you tried using the tool "System Restore"?

There is a site for those kind of squeaking noises, I'll post it up when I find it. But it could be because of your video card.

For 1-, 2-, and 3-beep errors try reseating the system's memory modules. If that fails, it is possible that 1 or more memory modules are bad.
For a 6-beep error, try substituting a different keyboard, or reseating the keyboard controller chip.
For an 8-beep error, try reseating your video card or a different video card (if your system has a separate video card).
For 4-, 5-, 7-, 9-, and 10-beep errors, it is likely that you will need to have your motherboard repaired or replaced.

The beeping noises used to happen to my computer, but after my brother did something to the video card, it stopped

Also do you have an anti - virus scanning program, it would be wise to use that

But don't use "System Restore" unless it is really necessary, because it restores up to a day, so possibly your study notes may get deleted , so make a back up

reinstall the windows folder?? as in ONLY reinstall the windows folder component...not the program files and the documents and settings.

Any computer making squeaking noises can't be good, and its a good indicator of hardware failure. If you can't boot into Windows using that drive, it might be worth asking someone to connect your hard disk to their computer to get the files off.

u have blue screen cos ur windows floder is missing something....ur windows missing something could prolly be cos u deleted something or virus killed something...repair/or was it restore.....but one of those u do to reinstall ur windoes folder...in doing so u fix ur windows folder u still keep ur personal files in my documents and ur settings and programs...

umm...wot u do is go through the main sequence in formatting but in one of the screens u go "no" and then all it does is reinstall ur windows foler....bit hazy on details sorry cos i have to be doing it myslef to remem cos havnt done it in like a yr...

wth...lol?...displays out as well??...display being out is usually physical...and ur windows fuking up is usually software...almost totally unrelated

Yeah, somethings up with teh hardware...I think my hard drive is farked...
