doesn't that question kinda answer itself in regards to why? ... maybe to expand further would be to argue that it can act as a critique of society, as Heckerling uses it.. maybe if you're really desperate u can argue that it helps to teach lessons [even though most things do] cause it's transforming the values of the 19th century..
how? well.. format obviously.. and the themes are changed to fit a modern audience..
