Heya sladehk,

It is very time consuming, but it's quite a fufilling subject.

What you need .. well, you need to have studied english extension 1 in year 11. That's the only prerequisite ;)

It helps to have an idea of a major work you want to create, however; it's also good to know your strengths (eg. writing short stories, poems, multimedia) and weaknesses (bad time organisation, forgetting to document) so you can work effectively and finish your major work in time (and still do well in other subjects!)

Have a look in the English Extension 2 Forum for some previous scholars' works, and for discussion about the various aspects of EEX2.

Some people claim that Ext2 being easier than ext1 is that just a load of crap?

They're different subjects, in my opinion.

Extension 1 looks at ways of thinking - texts, context, ways of analysing texts and ways that texts are constructed (theoretically, not literal construction - that's English adv.)

Extension 2 allows you to gather all you've learnt and apply it to a particular facet which appeals to you. For example, if you enjoy postmodernistic nihilistic tragedy, you could create a postmodern piece which examines, deconstructs, and analyses postmodernistic nihilistic tragic poetry (for example.)

Rather than be taught the theories, you're expected to apply them, in other words. :p

ITA, they are very different subjects. I'm loving Ext2 and really hating Ext1, but unfortunately you have to do it. Ext2 is just much more free. The choices you have to make are left completely up to you and you can just run with them. I def. recommend it.

I find that claim to be truth. Ext 1 requires so much analytical thinking and involves a compulsory reading list. The 500 page romance novel possession was an epic to finish however, it did get quite good mid way through which made the way much more bareable.

Ext 2 is an awesome subject, just be creative. It's an easy ride for someone who is a talented writer. Sign on, have some fun.

basically you need to be committed..

although u dnt have many exams..

u do always have to continuously work hard...

i recommend you do it. it is worth while.. and wats more.. you prolly wont ever be given the same chance again to write a story that will be so well concentrated on.. and briefed by urself and teachers regularly..

ur actually given time to do such a thing.. take it on.. but remeberf u must be dedicated!

do you HAVE to? cos i quit it halfway through year 11 because it was boring me to tears, even though i was doing really really well. so my teacher has been on my back to do ext1 and ext 2 english this year. dunno, maybe it varies from school to school.
