kind of, lol i forgot, labs are tutorials and labs combined in one.

comp1911 looks like those uber geek computing subjects lol sorry comp1911/comp1917/comp1921/compXXXX guys

but id go for engg1811, very colourful and practical.
did comp1911 its like a full scale subject and i didnt like it coz programming in C was a fuck and it ate lots of my time, patience and tolerance

+ moar womens in engg1811 in faact like my whole engg1000 group did it lol

man if you didnt do any computing courses this semester 2008 s1, then you have to take engg1811 during s2 and chances are its no different from s1 plus ive done well in it.

well in 2008 there were in a sense 3 levels of introductory computing

ENGG1811 - computing for engineers
COMP1911 - normal computing
COMP1921 - higher computing (?? not sure abt course code)

and if i'm not mistaken ENGG1811 is compulsory for all engineering students.

but yeah, ENGG1811 is definitely the easiest of the 3. the first half you learn about how to use Excel/Access - no programming at all (eg. conditional formatting, converting between units, using built-in functions, cell referencing etc)

then in the 2nd half you learn bit of programming in VBA. it is really the basics of programming so should be easy to grasp.

can't say much abt the COMP courses, but i can say ENGG1811 will be super bludge/easy compared to them

Comp 1911/1921 was for students who didn't want to major in cse courses
Comp 1917/1927 was for students who wanted to major in computing

im pretty sure COMP1911 is a prerequisite for COMP1921 and ENGG1811's ease and super bludge is the reason why i got a distinction.
however the computer illiterate types will have trouble with ENGG1811 anyway unless you were in a circle of consipracy

Looking from our perspective. This is how the first year comp courses are like, ordered by difficulty.

Comp1917 - Computing for normal people
Comp1911 - Computing for dummies
Engg1811 - NOT A COMPUTING COURSE (Dont even consider yourself know computing. Ie dont even think you know how to use a computer)

Well in 07 they didn't offer 1917/1927 to anyone so CSE majors had to do 1911/1921 it anyway. But I believe there would be many differences in the amounts covered of those courses offered this year.

some of the extra assignment code has been completed for us when we work on assignments.
what we have to worry about is the mathematics and the algorithm behind the actual assignment.

That is very true. However, the 1911 that you see in 08, doesnt exist in 07. Ie, there is no such thing as Computing. In 07, there was only Higher Computing.

U know.... engg1811 is not even close to real programming. First of all, you are using microsoft products lol
